Don Hudson is returning to KTVX as co-anchor of the ABC 4 Utah news at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m, teaming up with current evening anchor Kim Fischer.
Hudson previously co-anchored the 5 p.m. newscast with Fischer until late 2012, when he left for a stint at WHEC in Rochester, New York.
“It’s a real pleasure welcoming Don Hudson back to Utah and to our newsroom,” said Richard Doutre’ Jones, Vice President and General Manager of KTVX and KUCW in a statement. “Don is sincerely dedicated to the communities he covers, a truly invested citizen of the state with a respected track record for excellence in journalism.”
“I have lived all over the country during my 24 years in television news, but coming back to work in Utah is like coming back home,” Hudson said.
Hudson replaces current evening anchor Brent Hunsaker, who is on assignment in Africa.
KTVX has gone through a major changing of the guard in recent years, including layoffs in December 2012 under the current ownership of Nexstar Broadcasting Group. 15 employees reportedly lost their jobs, as station operations were transferred to regional hubs.
“I really feel like the new management team wants to do what’s best for the community,” Kim Fischer tells 24 Salt Lake. “They realize the only constant we’ve had at ABC 4 is change, and they’re working hard to fix that every day.”
Hudson debuts on August 26.
